  • Technique Installation: sewing and embroidery with network cables and tempered wire

The installation, shown at the Espacio en Blanco gallery in Bogotá, Colombia, brings together traditional sewing and embroidery techniques with contemporary materials such as network cables and tempered wire. This union opens a dialogue between past and present. The work pays tribute to the labour of grandmothers and seamstresses, whose craft weaves memory and devotion, preserving a legacy of knowledge that endures beyond time.

The work reinterprets popular iconography, including the figure of the “Divino Niño” (Holy Child) and the phrase “Yo Reinaré” (“I shall reign”). These images, charged with cultural and spiritual meaning, merge with the cold texture of the wire and the flexibility of the cables. The result is a field of tension in which the hardness of modern materials confronts the delicacy of traditional techniques.

As part of the series “The Softening of the Concrete”, the piece investigates how industrial materials can be turned into poetic narratives. It blurs the boundaries between rigid and malleable, between tradition and modernity. The contrast between craft and industry creates a space for reflection on human bonds, collective memory and the persistence of cultural roots in a digitised world.

Curated by Sergio Jiménez, “Yo Reinaré” invites the audience to reflect on how old traditions intertwine with present-day forms of expression, giving rise to a new artistic fabric that connects the spiritual and the material.
