Land of Mompox: An Intervention into Tradition

The project “Land of Mompox: An Intervention into Tradition” was made possible by the institutional support of Artesanías de Colombia and the Escuela Taller de Mompox. This first exhibition of contemporary Mompox jewellery honours the craft and tradition of the city’s goldsmiths, giving filigree a new reading within jewellery design trends and drawing fundamentally on the whole identity of traditional goldsmithing.

The exhibition is the result of a study of trends, the design of new proposals and the interaction between the city’s traditional goldsmiths and contemporary jewellery designers. Its main purpose is to develop new products to reach new markets and sales settings for customers who appreciate contemporary jewellery. To this end, a group of jewellers trained in the tradition of the craft took on the challenge of developing new ways of using filigree, resulting in this exhibition of contemporary jewellery charged with the full identity of Mompox.
